So everyone knows now about the protest that happened in Boro Park on Tuesday night.

Hasidic Jews protested in the streets of Boro Park Tuesday night after the mistreatment of a 75-year-old Orthodox man who was thrown up against a cop car. Ofc. Joseph Esposito, the ranking officer in the NYPD, was quoted by Councilmember Simcha Felder as saying "Get the f**king Jews off the street", "Get the f**king Jews out of here." The NYPD denied that Ofc. Esposito made such statements.

Does anyone realize that this guy was responsible for arrests of over 140 Puerto Ricans in 2000 at the PR Day Parade, beginning arrests 45 minutes before the official permit expired? Praise G-d one fearless reporter blogged it.

A native of Brooklyn, Mr. Esposito joined the force in Brooklyn in 1968. He joined at age 18, too young to be patrolman. Do you know what happened in Brooklyn when Mr. Esposito was 16? Some of the worst racist violence to hit New York during the Civil Rights movement.

I don't doubt that Mr. Esposito has issues of racism and/or anti-Semitism to work through. Maybe he was even a 16-year-old throwing rocks at "the Nigras" following Dr. M. L. King.

Perhaps calls of anti-Semitism are unwarranted.

But it is at least good to see things called like they are seen. Especially by religious Jews.
