European Islamophobes, Start Taking Antidepressants Now
Today's article from the Jerusalem Post should have the Islamophobes shaking in their boots.
Islam converts change face of EuropeAs many as 100,000 French and British citizens have converted to Islam over the last decade, according to a new book by an Israeli historian.
The figures cited by Hebrew University Prof. Raphael Israeli in his upcoming book The Third Islamic Invasion of Europe are representative of the fast-changing face of Europe, which the Islamic history professor says is in danger of becoming "Eurabia" within half a century.
He noted that about 30 million Muslims currently live in Europe, out of a total population of 380 million., adding that with a high Muslim birthrate in Europe, the number of Muslims living in the continent is likely to double within 25 years.
Likely to double! To 60 million! Almost a mind-boggling 16%!
Break out the Paxil, y'all, it's wrist-slitting time!
More sad than the way this is being billed ("Muslim Invasion of Europe"? Add a few typecast characters and a 50-foot-robot and you've got a B-movie) is how relevant its Islamophobia-overlaid nomenclature really is to the European populace:
European concerns over a fast-growing Muslim population is at the center of opposition to Turkey's entry into the EU, he said, as the inclusion of Turkey into the EU will catapult the number of Muslims to 100 million out of a total population of 450 million. "The sheer weight of demography will produce a situation where no Frenchman or Dutchman could be elected to parliament without the support of the Muslim minority," he said Monday in an interview with The Jerusalem Post."Muslims will have a more and more decisive voice in the makeup of European governments."
But, before the rallying cries for tightened borders are sent out of a sea of right-wing mouths:
The 50,000 French and 50,000 British who have converted to Islam over the last decade, including many from mixed marriages, did so for personal convictions, romanticized notions of Islam, as well as for business reasons, while others see Islam as the wave of the future at a time when Christianity is on the wane, Israeli said.
One hundred thousand European (almost exclusively) Christians have converted to Islam since 1997. Roughly 1/3 of the population of Belfast, Northern Ireland has taken shahada and become Muslim. This perhaps is the most effective deterrent to the lie of European homogeneity: these "Muslims" being decried as "invading" Europe might just be European themselves! It's not some Mesopotamian historical throwback these Islamophobes are talking about when they propose banning religious headwear or throw people off flights in brazen Islamophobic discrimination (would someone be taken so seriously if they were to say, "I don't feel comfortable flying with White people?"), they're effectively potentially discriminating against their 5th-grade teachers. Or neighbors. Or moms.
When Mrs. Desjardins leaves her house in Lyon and decides to become Fatima Umm Ahmed it is no one's business but her own, and what her conversion does is not a destruction of European culture, but a reinvention. And for the better -- European Christendom is rife with secularism, and instead of secularization theory, a number of educated first-world Europeans are choosing Islam.
They are choosing a connection to a culture professing ties to G-d, instead of a culture professing ties to American media networks. This sentiment should be encouraged by every person of faith alive, whether Muslim or not. And if the problem is terrorism, say so -- the problem is not and has never been Islam, regardless of what language the terrorists speak.
Why is Muhammad not a valid role model for Europeans? What, all Europeans should aspire to emulate Winston Churchill, the racist?

Comments
What amazes me is that a Jew like Israeli could not appreciate the paralells to the Old Europe attitude towards Judaism as an alien semitic invader. Jews and Muslims need to return to the tradition that existed through much of history of a) mutual respect, and b) watching each-others' backs against the forces of European nationalism.
